Good news: Although DC was recently named the most unaffordable city in the country, Shaw neighborhood activists have been coming together for community-led development for more than fifty years, and there's a lot we can learn from their efforts to make sure neighborhood change doesn't lead to displacement.
Join the Diverse City Fund for a 2-hour walking tour of the Shaw neighborhood. Among other things, we'll discuss the neighborhood's history and look at how new & longtime residents have united to win funding for new affordable housing and community centers, take control of their high-rise apartment buildings and start an Occupy movement (way back in 2010).
The tour will feature presentations by several DC Fund grantees based in the neighborhood.
