SPECIAL GUESTS

There's a lot of inefficiency out there that the sharing economy is tackling. Organizations featured at this event -- FlightCar, Mama Hope and Team Rubicon -- have cool models that leverage technology and practicality to solve problems. All of them have something to do with travel and disruption. We thought you'd like to know about them, while you hang out and feel good about your Friday.

Get to know Team Rubicon...

After the flood hit Colorado, we asked how we could help and our friends who know things, like Stanford man William Treseder, told us that after the first few days of a natural disaster the news reports die down and people forget and move on. Not cool. There are 18,000 families who have to start from scratch and last week 650 people were still missing or awaiting rescue. We'll tell you what's going on and other ways you can support.

Have a dance party with Mama Hope...

and hear about how they're building schools, wells, medical centers in Africa, while training the next generation of Global Citizens. Look for Mama Hope director, Amy Vaninetti and First Fifth exemplar, Katrina Boratko. If you know someone who doesn't know what to do with their life, they should talk to these ladies. Check them out in this October issue of Women's Health, then cross Africa and world-changing off your bucket list by next year!

Let FlightCar say thank you and give back to the city that launched them..

Backed by the founders of Airbnb, Reddit and Ryan Seacrest, these guys are the David vs. the Goliaths in the car rental industry, pioneering car sharing at the airport and giving it that Uber-touch. Find the founders, Rujul Zaparde and Kevin Petrovic, and ask them questions, give them feedback and share ideas about problems they can solve. They want to hear from you. And, definitely think of FlightCar next time you're heading out on a trip and are figuring out what to do with your car.

Good to know...

The "Sharing Economy Happy Hour" Series, hosted by FlightCar:  “Sharing Economy Happy Hours” are designed to foster community and create a place where people can gather, chat and swap ideas locally about the problems that can be solved through the efficiencies created by the sharing economy. Given the flooding devastation in Colorado, this first event in San Francisco will benefit Colorado flood victims, in partnership with Team Rubicon and local NGOs.

Media outlets including ABC 20/20, Headline News, MSNBC, Fox Business, and CBS Early Show, as well as in the New York Times, TIME Magazine, WSJ’s AllThingsD, Huffington Post, Forbes.com, Yahoo! News, Associated Press, Complex Magazine, Washington Post, Boston Globe, San Francisco Chronicle, San Jose Mercury News and local network and cable TV stations have documented FlightCar's growing support among consumers and its rise as a star in the sharing economy.

About FlightCar

FlightCar pioneered car-sharing at the airport and is the first full-service peer-to-peer car-sharing company focused on eliminating common traveler frustrations, while tackling bigger problems like waste, crowded city parking and airport congestion. Backed by the founders of Airbnb and Reddit, Ryan Seacrest plus notable venture firms Andreessen Horowitz and General Catalyst, FlightCar launched in February 2013 and is growing 40% each month, despite a pending lawsuit filed by SFO airport and the City of San Francisco. Visit FlightCar.com for more information.

About Team Rubicon

Team Rubicon unites the skills and experiences of military veterans with first responders to rapidly deploy emergency response teams. TR offers veterans a chance to continue their service by helping and empowering those afflicted by disasters, and also themselves. For more about Team Rubicon, visit teamrubiconusa.org.

About Mama Hope

Mama Hope unlocks the potential of over 100,000 people in Kenya, Tanzania, Ghana and Uganda, working in close partnership with local African organizations to connect them with the resources required to transform their own communities. The organization empowers partner communities to manage and build projects to ensure their sustainability. Projects include the completion of schools, health clinics, children’s centers, clean water systems and food security projects.
