The brain shapes how a person sees the world, but what shapes the brain? In this dialogue between neurobiologist Frances Champagne, psychologist Kevin Ochsner, and art historian David Freedberg, the panelists will explore the contributions of genes, emotions, and the arts in shaping our individual experiences. Dr. Champagne studies how the genes we are born with can be modified by early life experiences to influence adult behavior. Dr. Ochsner’s work in human emotions across the lifespan suggests how relations with others impact everyday interactions. David Freedberg’s expertise in the psychological and neurobiological responses to art reveals how art provokes and shapes the brain. In this evening together, these experts will discuss how diverse influences of our everyday lives shape how we perceive the world. By recognizing and evaluating these influences, audience members will come away with a deeper understanding of the inner workings of their brain.

The lecture is free and open to the public, but space is limited.
