SFTA 201 Workshop – Creative Leadership & Collaboration for Sustainability

For many sustainability practitioners your job requires skills beyond scientific knowledge, analysis, data management and reporting. In fact, what most practitioners face is a need to manage people, tell a story, cast a vision and drive change within their organization.
In this workshop we will address the following questions: How do we transfer ideas, co-create expectations, spread vision, and inspire action, effectively and exponentially? How do we get other people to do what we want or need them to do? We don’t and we can’t. However, we can help people do what they want to do, and invite them to share, participate, and contribute in the sustainability work of your organization.
The soft skills workshop is a blend of key offerings from change management and creative leadership, which is an important framework for understanding your role as a sustainability practitioner and how to inspire and excite those you work with to share in the work around sustainability.
Who should attend
This hands-on workshop is designed for sustainability professionals who have been in their role more than one year and are eager to deepen their skill set to help further the sustainability initiatives at their company.
What attendees will come away with:
Attendees will receive dynamic instruction and education on how to be effective in transferring ideas, co-creating expectations, inspiring action, spreading a vision, building accountability, leading a team, and storytelling, all of which helps influence change inside your organization.
As sustainability practioners we are constantly launching and sustaining change projects. The skill set to do this effectively may not be intuitive for everyone. In guidance with our mission, SFTA is providing this workshop to help build the capacity of the organic food trade to transition to sustainable business models by equipping practitioners who are tasked with this work. Additionally this workshop will be an excellent learning opportunity for sustainability practioners outside of the organic food trade to hone their skills as well.
The workshop will use a case study to highlight tested and innovative techniques that will give attendees new skills to take home and improve your approaches to managing sustainability change within your organization. We will take a deep dive into the idea of collective leadership, question thinking, insights into empathy and team management as well as storytelling. All of these tools will shape your approach to sustainability and how to build that momentum for change.
