Join San Francisco Hacker News for an informative panel sponsored by the welcoming folks at Disqus (301 Howard St. 3rd floor) for a discussion on architecture and scaling. They started from scratch in 2007 and have grown to become the go-to commenting platform for blogs everywhere, so this team knows a thing or two about scaling.

This topic is so important to us as a community of hackers and founders. It's our mission to set you up for success as you grow.

Joining us on the panel will be the following team members from Disqus. The panel will be moderated by Dan Gailey (@dpg), your host and fellow hacker.

The panel will consist of these rockstars:

  1. Matt Robenolt (@mattrobenolt) — DevOps. Matt is the Site Reliability Engineer for Disqus and an avid open source contributor. Most days are spent writing Python and Go. He has a passion for optimizations and making things faster. Previously, Matt was the co-founder of a tech startup in his hometown and the founder of a web development shop. When he’s not busy writing code for Disqus, he’s probably writing code for some open source library.
  2. Adam Hitchcock (@NorthIsUp) — Infrastructure. Adam architects and scales the ads platform at Disqus. He is a proponent of service based architectures for scaling systems. Previously Adam worked at Skype on their core web services team.
  3. John Watson (@wizputer DevOps. John is the Operations Engineer at Disqus. He enjoys everything from system administration to development. He has an insatiable curiosity when it comes to all things web tech-related. It's his goal to leave a lasting mark with every stack he has a hand in designing/building/maintaining.

6:30-7:00: Arrive, mingle, have drinks and snacks
7:00-8:00: Panel discussion and Q&A
8:00-9:00: Mingle, network

Why are there donation-priced tickets?

We're currently on the lookout for sponsors (let us know if you're interested or know someone who is!), but in the meantime, we're collecting donations to offset the costs of some awesome swag for our members as well as photo/video editing, and the cost of future events in new spaces.

I want to help out and get involved in the community. Can I help at this event?

Yes, yes, and more yes. Send over an email to carrie@techendo.co and she'll let you know the details. We need volunteers for check-in, set-up, and clean-up. We also happen to treat our volunteers like royalty. Just sayin'.

Should you bring a paper ticket?

No, it isn't required, but we will be checking people in at the door, so make sure you've registered through Eventbrite and not Facebook or Meetup alone.

I love engineering, community, sci-fi, dreaming up the future, and Tiramisù. Maybe not in that order.
