A Curious Recognition
Painter and printmaker Timothy Berry’s most recent work continues a lifelong investigation of mankind’s contentious yet appreciative relationship to nature. Utilizing motifs from natural landscapes, he generates implied narratives of a paradise lost and flirts with patterned abstraction. His work results from a generative approach to printmaking that involves aspects of digital and analog techniques. By merging the human hand and mechanical tools, Berry creates visually and conceptually layered compositions. His collaborative printmaking workshop, Teaberry Press, has worked with over 250 artists to create new projects since 1974.
Berry’s work was most recently exhibited in the 2013 exhibition Peaceable Kingdom at Bedford Gallery, Walnut Creek, Calif., and in a 2012 solo exhibition at the Clark Gallery, Boston. His work will be featured in a solo show at the B. Sakata Gallery, Sacramento, in March 2014. He is represented in 21 major museum collections in the United States and Europe. Berry is Associate Professor at SFAI.
