Dear Seton Hall Parent,
You are cordially invited to attend our first "Seton Hall Parents Lunch & Learn" with Professor Mary Balkun. This inaugural event will be held at the Chancellor's Suite in Seton Hall University. In Dr. Balkun’s presentation, you get a sense of your student’s classroom experience at Seton Hall University.
Dr. Balkun is a Professor and Chair of the Department of English at Seton Hall University and her research interests include material culture, gender studies, women's travel narratives, and the construction of identity in literature. She is the author of The American Counterfeit: Authenticity and Identity in American Literature and Culture, as well as articles on Phillis Wheatley, Sarah Kemble Knight, Walt Whitman, F. Scott Fitzgerald, and William Faulkner. Dr. Balkun also teaches a variety of courses, both undergraduate and graduate, including the University's first-year core course, The Journey of Transformation, Women and Literature II, American Romanticism, Studies in American Literature, and Senior Seminar.

Seton Hall parents are invited to help advance the University’s goals and priorities by volunteering their time and talents, and through their financial support. Directed by the University Advancement, in collaboration with Students Services, the Parents Program offers parents the following opportunities, and more:
Assist with admissions efforts at Freshman Orientation
Provide internship or career opportunities
Host a reception for Seton Hall University Facilitate contacts with corporations/foundations
Help with fundraising efforts for the Parents Fund
A special group of very active and engaged parents will be invited to join the Parent Leadership Council, which requires a minimum annual gift of $2,500 to the Parents Fund. Council members will meet regularly with representatives of University Advancement to discuss issues of vital importance to Seton Hall parents, and will receive exclusive invitations to Seton Hall events both on and off campus.
All Seton Hall parents are encouraged to get involved in their student’s educational experience.
