About the 'Service Above Self' Golf Invitational
Now in our third year, this event seeks to build awareness Rotary's motto of "Service Above Self,” and recognizes our commitment to service of others. We also wish to support the Shepherd Center and its SHARE Military Initiative.
The mission of Rotary International, a worldwide association of Rotary clubs, is to provide service to others, to promote high ethical standards, and to advance world understanding, goodwill and peace through its fellowship of business, professional and community leaders.

About Shepherd Center
Shepherd Center, located in Atlanta, Georgia, is a private, not-for-profit hospital specializing in medical treatment, research and rehabilitation for people with spinal cord injury or brain injury. Founded in 1975, Shepherd Center is ranked by U.S. News & World Report among the top 10 rehabilitation hospitals in the nation.
Shepherd Center is one of two civilian hospitals working on the successful return of active-duty or transition to community for military men and women diagnosed with a traumatic brain injury (TBI). The signature injury of military service personnel returning from Iraq and Afghanistan is TBI and has affected more than 178,000 individuals between 2000 and 2010 according to the U.S. Department of Defense.

The mission of the SHARE Initiative, which began in 2008, is to provide a continuum of rehabilitation care for soldiers who have sustained a spinal cord injury (SCI) or traumatic brain injury (TBI) while serving the United States of America on active duty in Iraq or Afghanistan and to assist, support and educate these soldiers and their families as they return to their home and community so they can achieve the highest levels of independence and quality of life.
