with Lisa Medoff, Ph.D., Stanford University

Wednesday, November 13, 2013, 7:00 - 8:30 p.m.

Sequoia High School, Carrington Hall

In this special presentation, Dr. Medoff will describe the cognitive and social-emotional developmental changes of adolescence and discuss ways that parents can communicate effectively with their teenagers during this time of rapid change.  She will also discuss how parents can help their children develop communication and coping skills to reduce stress and build resilience.

Lisa Medoff is a developmental psychologist who specializes in adolescent mental health.  She teaches courses on adolescent development in the Program in Human Biology at Stanford University, where she is an Associate Dean of Residential Education.  Dr. Medoff is the research consultant for Acknowledge Alliance (formerly The Cleo Eulau Center), where she provides workshops and trainings on social and emotional issues in the classroom.  She also works privately with students who have learning disabilities and emotional disorders, consulting with families and schools to help them provide the optimal home and school environments for their children with special needs.  Her books include the Stressed Out Students Guide To... series and Resilience in the Classroom: Helping Students with Special Needs.

Dr. Medoff holds a B.A in psychology from Rice University, an M.S.Ed. in school counseling from the University of Pennsylvania, and a Ph.D. in child and adolescent development from Stanford University.
