International Student Ambassador - CHINA

OVERVIEW

 

Dear International Students,

 

We would like to invite Chinese international students to attend an information sharing session on Friday, November 30th from 11:00 am – 12:00 noon at the Student Center (exact location to be determined). The purpose of our meeting is to share about our new initiative to select International Student Ambassadors to represent China – details are below and attached. We will also solicit feedback about student experiences of selecting, applying and accepting UCI as their school of choice to improve our services to future UCI Chinese students. The UCI International Student Ambassador program is an elite group of students who gain valuable work experience. Student Ambassadors are current students selected on the basis of leadership, professionalism and desire to promote student events and programs to Chinese high school students and incoming Chinese freshman. The position is a unique opportunity to learn and make a meaningful impact on international student recruitment efforts. Ambassadors uphold the philosophy, mission and goals of UCI by personal example and by serving as hosts and hostesses for UCI.

 

JOB DESCRIPTION AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Up to four (4) undergraduate student Ambassadors will be selected via a competitive application and interview process.

 

What you can expect from participation in the Ambassadors Program:

 

  • The opportunity to work with faculty, staff and other student leaders to advance the UCI’s International Student - China outreach and recruitment goals;
  • The opportunity to strengthen your skills with public speaking, program and event planning, and teamwork and leadership skills;
  • The opportunity to contribute to social media and communications on key topics that prospect high school students and parents would be interested in knowing
  • Work experience to add to your resumé;
  • Those who fulfill their duties will be provided with a Letter of Recommendation;
  • A quarterly stipend will be provided (TBD, based on final budget allocation).

 

Minimum qualifications and requirements:

 

  • Must be an full time international student of UCI from either China, Taiwan or Hong Kong origin
  • Sophomore-level or junior standing by fall 2013
  • 3.0 Minimum GPA
  • Ability to effectively communicate your Anteater pride to others
  • Professional work habits (dependable, reliable, team player, willingness to learn)
  • Willingness to perform student ambassador duties for fall, winter and spring quarters 2012-13;
  • Willingness to demonstrate professional standards of language, behavior and dress at all times during assigned ambassador visits and outreach activities.

 

Ambassador Responsibilities:

 

  • Attend trainings and bi-monthly meetings to assist with ambassador assignments, including
    • Planning, scheduling and hosting outreach events* (listed below);
    • Reviewing and creating marketing materials such as brochures, online social media content creation and UCI Chinese website development;
    • Student Ambassadors talk with perspective students through the web, create videos and post them on the Admission social media platforms, and maintain student blogs
    • Providing school and campus information to prospective applicants and their families by phone, electronic and in-person meetings.
  • Help to develop a 15-20 minute UCI presentation for K-12 audience specific for a China based audience in Chinese and English
  • Deliver at least 3 presentations to K-12 audiences (individually or in group format) in home country - UCI will provide related reimbursement for travel to local schools etc.
  • Participate in assigned outreach activities, events* and tasks
  • Communicate and work closely with UCI international undergraduate counselors to ensure that all information being conveyed to the general community is accurate, consistent and reflective of UCI outreach goals.
  • *Outreach Events (some of these may change):

 

FALL  

    • Welcome Week events – International Student Orientation Week
    • Assisting & mentoring incoming Chinese Freshman students – Buddy Lunch Dates etc.
    • Assisting in recruitment activities such as emailing followed up by calls to prospect Chinese students applying to UCI
    • Consistently updating social media properties with pictures, essays and updates of student life and school activities   


WINTER 
 

    • Attend and assist at annual international student recruitment conference hosted by UCI office of admissions
    • Consistently updating social media properties with pictures, essays and updates of student life and school activities
    • Others to be determined  

 

SPRING  

    • Assisting in yield activities such as emailing followed up by calls to admitted Chinese students to survey them about interest in UCI 
    • Consistently updating social media properties with pictures, essays and updates of student life and school activities
    • Others to be determined

 

SUMMER (OPTIONAL)  

    • Work closely with Associate Director of Enrollment in China to make 2-3 presentations to high schools or parents during visit back to China (if you have planned to go back); OR
    • Work closely with UCI Extensions: Summer High School Program that hosts Chinese students for 4-6 weeks in organization, orientation and buddy activities
    • Potential opportunities to Intern at UCI Office in China working closely with the Associate Director on marketing and enrollment activities for China
