As CEO, he led three profitable software and services companies; at the public company, grew revenues from $1m to $16m and public market cap. 60-fold in less than 3 years; negotiated license agreements with industry leading software companies, trade association, and export licenses with Department of Commerce and NSA. ABOUT JOHN STARR
John is a 20 year veteran of both technology startups and media production in the San Francisco Bay Area. After studying screenwriting under August Coppola at San Francisco State University, John worked in production and acting in televison and film until moving on to teach fellow communication professionals as part of Media Alliance. He joined the early team at Calimetrics, an optical drive startup in Alameda that raised more than $50 million in financing before being sold. Then, as part of the innovative founders of the web's first online comic book retailer, NextPlanetOver.com he helped sow the seeds for the world of geekdom that we now live in. After NPO was acquired by E-Hobbies, John moved on to managing complex computer networks for large scale non-profits and institutions of higher education such as Guide Dogs for the Blind and the San Francisco Theological Seminary.
John currently works in the fields of voice acting and audio production, runs several meetup groups, helps organize large scale industry conferences such as The San Francisco Music Tech Summit and teaches on various technology and media topics. Looking to bring all of his experience and skills to his own startup, John has founded Rokkus Radio, the world's first transmedia radio station. He lives and works in Marin County with his family and enjoys baseball, rock music and writing.
