Second Annual FoodWorx: The Future of Food Conference
Tuesday, February 4, 2014 from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM (PST)
WHAT IS “THE FUTURE OF FOOD”?
Food is both an incredibly personal subject and a global concern. For many, we go to the store to buy our food and drink and that’s that. For many others, that's not the case. As impassioned foodies and global citizens we know the term food is complex and deeply nuanced. FoodWorx seeks to initiate a conversation about a wide range of topics in food with an eye to what issues will look like in the next 5 to 10 years.
FoodWorx was created to tackle the hard questions from never-before-seen angles and present “food for thought” to everyone who loves food – consumers, trade, media – everyone.
Subjects are categorized into four overarching pillars: Food & Economics; Food & Environment: Food & Society; and Food & Health. Each pillar can have any number of related subjects. For example, the topic of Food & Medicine would fall under “Food & Health”. Each talk is always “Food and” something else. The “something else” can vary, from architecture to art, from climate to community, from manufacturing to medicine.
FoodWorx is designed to provoke thought and inspire ideas among everyone who loves, or is involved with, food and drink. What current trends will shape food and drink production, manufacturing, travel, distribution and consumption? Whether you’re just a casual foodie or you work in the industry, you’ll find a lot to chew on at FoodWorx.
FoodWorx was created as an entirely new kind of conference - a lot of information packed into one day, talks are done in short, 20-minute TED-style inspirational talks; pre-conference delegate networking in a private online community; special recognition for job seekers; opportunities to interact with the speakers; and the Cascadian Cuisine Exhibition and Reception at the day's end to recap the day's ideas and unwind with friends.
FoodWorx is produced by World Food Travel Association, a 501-c-3 organization. We are able to issue donation letters to interested sponsors and donors.
