Second Annual Assembly: Safe Cities LA by Greater L.A. USNC-UN Women
Saturday, January 11, 2014 from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM (PST)
Santa Monica, CA
San Francisco, California
London, United Kingdom
Did you know that Los Angeles is one of the least safe cities in the United States?
That’s why we’re bringing people like you, who are shape shifters, community organizers and citizens who care about making Los Angeles a safer place for women and girls. In 2014 the LA Chapter-USNC for UN Women is dedicating its time to unify groups already doing work that makes LA a better place and working to get Los Angeles and the surrounding cities on board the UN Global Safe City Initiative. It’s time to make the city we love so much shine and be a leader for progress. Our assembly on January 11th will be broken down into small circles to talk about urban environments, health, exploitation/bullying/representation, and creative expression and emotional wellbeing. You will get to participate in more than one circle throughout the day.
The Greater Los Angeles Chapter of the U.S. National Committee for UN Women presents "Second Annual Assembly: Safe Cities LA".
Please join us for a dynamic discussion on creating more equitable cities for women and girls. The assembly will feature an inspiring panel of speakers, interactive discussions, an exciting performance and presentations from community organizations committed to making Los Angeles a safe city for women and girls.
About Safe Cities
UN Women is working on ways to make cities safer for women and girls globally. Given the mission of the LA chapter and the success of Safe Cities projects globally, our chapter aims to facilitate the global initiative within local communities here in Los Angeles. The issues of women and girls in Los Angeles are linked to those worldwide and Safe Cities LA hopes to make Los Angeles a UN Global Safe City.
UN Women’s Global Safe Cities projects harness local knowledge to forward pragmatic and contextual solutions. Likewise, Safe Cities LA will be an active discussion amongst a diverse audience of activists and academics about how individuals and organizations can learn more about UN Women’s global projects and make our city a more equitable environment for women and girls.
The SECOND ANNUAL ASSEMBLY: SAFE CITIES LA will forward full-circle thinking, self-directed empowerment, community resilience and practical strategies that enhance safety and protection for women and girls in Los Angeles and all over the globe. Please join us in making our cities safer, more accountable, and equitable for women and girls.
