SCREENWRITING FOR ADULTS
In this course, participants will begin to understand the writing process. The group will explore the identity of characters through an understanding and written expression of character biographies and objectives. Students will be allowed to express, through writing, an imaginary character they have been creating, or one from a scenario the student was looking to develop a screenplay about. From biography, to monologue that reveals a significant life event, to creating a short scene of dialogue where the screenwriter’s character is in conflict with another or going through an event that introduces another character, characters will now begin to leap off the page. Students will learn an understanding of story structure and the basic plot points to include in a script. This material is a jumping off point for a greater story.

When & Where
The Picture House
Several years ago a group of concerned citizens in lower Westchester organized to save the 1920s Pelham Picture House, now listed on the NY State Register of Historic Places, from the wrecking ball. The Picture House, recently restored and renovated, is now an independent film and education center. The Picture House entertains audiences with great movies – indies, foreign films, classics, shorts, animated films and documentaries from around the world. By inviting, actors, directors, producers, screen writers, and film critics to discuss their work, we bring the back lot to our front door.
