Career Discussion series for UMB Postdocs
To provide UMB postdocs with more detailed information on various scientific career paths, the Office of Postdoctoral Scholars will host a new series of informal talks with guest speakers who will share their personal experiences transitioning from their academic postdoc. During these sessions participants will be provided with an overview of various career paths, including day-to-day details of the job, as well as general advice that will be useful during the job search.

Geoff Hunt, Ph.D., Public Outreach Coordinator, American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB)
Dr. Hunt received his PhD in Molecular Biology from Princeton University under the direction of Dr. Jean Schwarzbauer. After a one-year postdoc, he obtained a Science Policy Fellowship at the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB). In 2011, ASBMB created a brand new position, Public Outreach Coordinator, and recruited him to serve in this role. Outside of ASBMB, Dr. Hunt regularly participates in various career forums and introduces young scientists to the realities of science and policy through music parodies. He is the 2007 winner of ASCB’s CellSlam award (Stand-Up Science Poetry Slam) for his piece, “Mind on My Project, Project on My Mind” Join Dr. Hunt as he shares his experiences moving from the bench to policy and public outreach.
