Science of a Cocktail Party
There will be smart people and beautiful people and interesting people (often the same people), hors d’oeuvres, open bar with the signature pop-rock cocktail, a DNA extraction demo (see your own DNA!), plus cool neuroscience experiments you'll participate in, plus a photo booth and raffle prizes all in the name of science and fun.
You will absolutely be talking about this party afterward!
Plus, our special Guest of Honor, Dr. Marius Stan
aka "Bogdan Wolynetz," owner of the carwash and notorious eyebrows on the Emmy award-winning TV show "Breaking Bad." In real life, he holds a PhD in chemistry and is a senior scientist in the Nuclear Engineering division at Argonne National Laboratory. Really!
Special VIP reception: 7:00 - 8:30pm at D.I.R.T.T. Environmental Solutions. Guests will enjoy dinner, cocktails and photos with Dr. Stan who will discuss his scientific research and experience on the show "Breaking Bad." Access to the Cocktail Party following is, of course, included with this ticket.
Special THANKS to our sponsors:

SCIENCE COCKTAIL FAQs
Attire - Cocktail party but weather appropriate. Meaning, if you want to wear your cute party dress or cool new shirt - fantastic. But if it's rainy cold and you can't imagine changing out of flannel-lined jeans and a wooly sweater, that's fine with us! Just no snuggies, please. Ditch boots at the door - the drinks and conversation will warm you right up!
Public Transit - Easy! Event is right across the street from southeast doors of Merchandise Mart. CTA brown line stops on 2nd level of the Mart. (Tip - there is no down escalator in the Mart; use stairs next to ATMs outside CTA turnstiles.) Or, the #156 LaSalle bus stops one block east at 320 LaSalle. Follow the narrow sidewalk on the north side of the building west toward Wells, then turn left.
Parking Discount - A real $4 deal!! For the first 100 guests, we've arranged a big discount at Mart Parc Wells Self Park garage, 1/2 block north of the building. Enter garage from either Wells or Kinzie , take your ticket and park. Bring the ticket to the party and get a discount sticker for it. Use that when you return to the garage to pay and your fee is reduced to $4.00. No driving around the area or special reservation required. Because ISC loves our friends.
This is a 21+ event.
Handicap accessible - Yes, DIRTT and Kimball are accessible.
Printed tickets - Don't print out tickets; it wastes paper. Provide your name, and guest name(s), with your ticket purchase and we'll have a complete list at the door.
Bonus Quote - "In this house, we OBEY the laws of thermodynamics! - Homer Simpson
Illinois Science Council ("ISC") is an independent 501c3 organization that engages, educates, and entertains the adult public about science, technology, engineering and math in our everyday lives. We showcase the scientists and research of those Chicago-area institutions and companies that make Chicago our nation's true "City of Science." ISC serves as the science & tech complement to the arts & culture outreach offered to the lay public.
We are inspired and motivated by this Carl Sagan quote: “The brain is like a muscle. When it is in use we feel very good. Understanding is joyous." Sagan also observed, "We live in a society that is exquisitely dependent upon science and technology in which hardly anyone understands anything about science and technology." ISC is certainly working to change that.
ISC explores all areas of science and technology and we do it with a fun, non-stuffy approach. We don't care what's been forgotten since school (or never learned in the first place). It's simply about continuing to exercise our inexhaustible human sense of curiosity. We create engaging programs open to the public (aimed at adults and accessible to teens) such as hands on chemistry (Chemistry of... Beer, Chocolate, Coffee, Honey, etc), panel discussions on science subjects in the news (Your Brain on Happiness, on Creativity, on Addiction, on Exercise, etc.), author talks, film screenings ("The Atom Smashers"), and more.
