Participants will learn how to develop or hone their humor writing skills.The workshop includes examples from the best classical and contemporary humorists, weekly writing assignments, in-class feedback, and a truckload of resources. We will cover the basics of “funny,” and various forms of humor and comedy, depending on class interests, but we will touch on political satire, humorous essays, songs, blogs, fiction and screenplays. We will talk about how to get published and perform your work. This workshop is for all levels, from beginner to advanced.
Sessions are from 7 - 9 PM on Tuesday evenings at the W@tercoolerhub at 21 North Broadway, Tarrytown, NY.
Participants will have the opportunity read or perform their work at the June 1 Writer’s Showcase.
Ivy Eisenberg is an award-winning comedian, storyteller and humor writer, who performs throughout New York and Connecticut, telling tales of her stressed, workaholic, self-effacing, overcommitted, coffee-fueled life. She is the proud recipient of a 2012 National Society of Newspaper Columnists award for her humor blog, schmeightschmatchers.com; a 2011 Memoir award from MouseMuse Productions’ Writers Artists Collaborative, for “Tonsillectomy 1966”; and three awards from Humorpress.com’s “America’s Funniest Humor”™ Showcase. Her essay “Senseless in Seattle” appeared in How to Fit a Car Seat on a Camel and Other Misadventures Traveling With Kids, edited by Sarah Franklin in 2008.
