SCENE IN ACTION is inspired by the stunning abstract expressionist artworks in Stanford's newly opened Anderson Collection and by the iconic photographs in the Cantor's special exhibition, Robert Frank in America. The culmination of the Stanford Summer Arts Intensive choreographic workshop by the same name, SCENE IN ACTION is performed by Stanford undergraduate students and directed by faculty member Aleta Hayes.

Begins at the Cantor Arts Center and ends at the Anderson Collection. Please plan to arrive at least 15 minutes early at the Cantor with your printed Evite ticket ready. Limited capacity. No latecomers admitted.

FAQs


Can I arrive early to visit the Cantor or the Anderson?

You may visit the Cantor Arts Center or the Anderson Collection during each institution's regular open hours. However, you will need to exit the building at closing time (5 pm on Wednesday, 8 pm on Thursday) to line up for the event. No earlybirds will be able to enter the event before the performance begins.


Do I need to bring ID to enter the event?

If you reserved a "Stanford Student or Faculty" ticket, you need to bring your Stanford ID. Otherwise, please just bring your printed ticket.


What are my transportation and parking options to get to the event?

The Cantor is located at the intersection of Museum Way and Lomita Drive on the Stanford campus, northwest of The Oval and the Main Quad. The Cantor is just one block from Palm Drive, facing the Bing Concert Hall. Click here for a map of the campus.

Parking
Parking is available along Museum Way and on Lomita Drive in front of the Cantor. A parking structure is also located on Roth Way. Both permit and metered parking spots are free after 4 pm on weekdays.

Directions from Highway 101

Take the Embarcadero exit west and cross El Camino Real. Stay in the left lane as you cross El Camino. The street becomes Galvez Drive. Turn right on Campus Drive. Turn left on Palm Drive and continue until the next intersection, which is Museum Way. Turn right on Museum Way and you will be facing the main entrance to the Cantor.

Directions from Highway 280

Take Alpine Road exit east. Turn right on Junipero Serra, then left on Campus Drive West. Follow Campus Drive until you reach Palm Drive. Turn right on Palm Drive, continue to Museum Way. Turn right on Museum Way and you will be facing the main entrance to the Cantor.

Public Transit
Stanford University is accessible by numerous public transportation agencies including Caltrain, Santa Clara Valley Transportation Agency, SamTrans, Bay Area Rapid Transit, Altamont Commuter Express, Dumbarton Express, and the East Bay Express. Please visit

Stanford Marguerite Shuttle
The Marguerite is a free weekday shuttle system that picks up and delivers passengers to and from nearby public transportation stations and university locations, including the Cantor Arts Center. What can/can't I bring to the event?

Please do not bring the following items into the Cantor Arts Center or the Anderson Collection:

  • Food
  • Drink (including water)
  • Pens
  • Large bags/backpacks
  • Tripods

There is limited storage for bags/backpacks, and the time required to stow these items may delay the performance. Additionally, flash photography is not allowed inside the Cantor or the Anderson Collection. If you decide to bring a camera, please keep it with you at all times; the Cantor is not responsible for any lost or stolen items.
