When & Where
The OWNED Project: Arelia Johnson
We’re pretty sure that Arelia started her life with composition paper, a pen, and a history book in her hand. As long as she can remember, she’s had a huge passion for designing and creating programs to help those in need and writing stories and poems to encourage others. As a result of a film directed by Spike Lee, she began writing poetry at the age of ten and was a published poet by twelve. When she got to college, she began creating prose pieces to perform. This is where she really got the feeling that she had a passion for speaking, activism, and writing. She published her first book,Thick, in 2013.
