Please join us for some pizza and a tech-talk about some of Yahoo!'s exciting cloud technologies. This is a unique opportunity for you to get an inside look at the way we build one of the largest websites on the planet! You will have the chance to network with Yahoos that make amazing products a reality and you’ll also be able to discuss the opportunities we currently have available for you to work with us.
Come hang out and listen to P.P.S. Narayan (aka PPSN), Sr. Director of Engineering for Structured Storage+Messaging at Yahoo. His team is responsible for the design, architecture, and engineering of the NoSQL platforms that support Yahoo!'s properties and applications.
Every page served, every news article, every ad and every e-mail on Yahoo! goes through these platforms. They serve millions of requests per second and store petabytes of data around the globe. These systems store a variety of data that is used by applications such as personalization, user profiles, ad targeting, social updates and connections, user generated and editorial content and many, many others.
In this talk, PPSN will present some storage platforms in Cloud Services and the impact they have on Yahoo! He will talk about the storage challenges of websites catering to nearly 700M users worldwide. He will illustrate the uniqueness of our solutions, especially next-generation platforms like Sherpa, that provide capabilities such as high scalability, elastic growth, multi-tenancy, global footprint for local low-latency access, asynchronous replication, REST-based web service APIs, novel per-record consistency knobs, high availability, compression, secondary indexes, and record level replication.
Before joining Yahoo!, PPSN was at Bell Labs where he was involved in database, and network management research. He also led a small Bell Labs Venture team to build the next-generation LBS platform called Geopepper. PPSN has publications at many database conferences in the areas of transaction management, XML, and query processing.
