It's intersting how Hodgkin's Lymphoma- or any other cancer or life-threatening condition- can change your life in an instant...
Then one day, about a year ago, I had this immensely intense cough that tormented so much it forced me to go the emergency room. After several tests, the ER doctor informed me that nothing was visible on my chest x-rays. He prescribed cough medicine and sent me on my merry way. Although I left that hospital, the intensity of that cough never left me.
Eight visits to the emergency room later, God sent an angel in the form of an unfamiliar doctor who was overseeing the ER the night I arrived once again. He, like all the doctors before him, sent me for chest x-rays, listened to my lungs, and conducted the basic superficial exam. However, this doctor was different in that he requested blood work to be performed. Upon receiving the results of that blood work, this doctor then proceeded to request my entire previous chest x-rays over the last year so that he could examine them. When the doctor came in to speak with me and my family, he showed us the spot on my lung that went from being one spot to growing into multiple spots, which progressively got worse in between each visit to the emergency room. Yet, no other doctor showed me or told me there was an issue but him. I was then sent to an oncologist, where I received a confirmed diagnosis of having Hodgkin's Lymphoma Cancer- now in stage 3.
Sometimes I wonder if my life would be different had the doctors in the emergency room paid attention to this a year ago. Oftentimes I wonder how is it that I, at age 29, could receive a medical report that would change the course of my life forever. Most times, I wonder why me, why now? And though I was raised knowing that tomorrow is never promised, what I REFUSE to do is give up on my life and the destiny I believe God has for me.
My initial chemotherapy began in February of 2014. After 8 sessions, the oncologist concluded the chemo has not worked. I was referred to another oncologist at Robert Wood Johnson Medical Center, who told me I now should explore the ICE chemotherapy infusions. I have also been in contact with the Cancer Treatment Centers of America, but they have advised my insurance is not accepted at their facility and I will need to pay out of pocket.
I never ask for much. But now, I am asking for your consideration of helping me and my family to raise money necessary to for treatment options available at the Cancer Treatment Centers of America, as well as the cost for covering alternative medical treatments to compliment traditional medical treatments. I would never impose a specific amount- whatever is within your measure to give is greatly appreciated and will not go unnoticed.
Each day I wake up, I am filled with gratitude for still being here in spite of all the medical obstacles in front of me, and humbled by the miracle I am praying every moment. It goes right back to the core philosophy of living life to the fullest. I am hopeful you can partner with me in my courageous fight for life. Together, we will win!
