Course Description:

What does it take to lead a successful company? This seminar features an interactive panel discussion with c-level executives of regional technology companies as they share their leadership experiences and advice. We’ll explore the evolving nature and demands of leadership from start up to maturity; the evolution process from an entrepreneurial technical expert to an effective company leader; effective leadership characteristics and styles; and more! Join us as Frank Linnehan, Associate Dean of Graduate and Undergraduate Studies for Le Bow College of Business, Drexel University, moderates this panel of accomplished Sacramento company leaders.

Panelist and Moderator Bios :

Hayes Barnard, CEO, Paramount Energy Solutions and Paramount Equity
Hayes founded Paramount Equity with a passion to build great businesses with selfless people committed to going the extra mile to save their neighbors money. The company opened in 2003 as Hayes and his team set out to transform the mortgage industry. From its headquarters in Sacramento, the company has grown to serve communities throughout California, Oregon, Washington, Utah, Arizona, and Virginia. By the end of 2008, Paramount Equity Mortgage had completed over $9 billion in loans making it one of the largest and most successful residential mortgage banking companies on the West Coast.

Under his leadership, the company has been honored to receive many awards, including the Oregon Broadcaster’s Advertiser of the Year Award and the Roseville Chamber of Commerce’s Entrepreneur of the Year Award. In 2009 Paramount Equity Mortgage was also recognized as a New California 100 Innovative Business by Golden Capital Network and Hamilton Lane. But the award that Hayes is most proud of is the Sacramento Business Journal A+ Employer Award for large companies.  Paramount Equity has been a recipient of this award multiple times, first in 2006, then placing in the top three in 2007 and again in first place in both 2009 and 2010. The company was also recently recognized as one of Sacramento’s healthiest businesses in which to work.

Hayes continues to stay active in his community and is a currently a member of the Sacramento Chapter of the Entrepreneurs Organization, Positive Coaching Alliance and a board member for the Sacramento Liquidity Event for 2009 and 2010.

Hayes’s infectious enthusiasm for innovation also enabled the company to expand by opening Paramount Equity Insurance Services, which launched in July of 2006 and currently generates about 270 policies per month.

In 2010 Paramount Equity launched a new solar energy division designed to help customers use renewable energy and save money on utility costs. The new division, Paramount Energy Solutions, provides financing options that make solar systems affordable for everyday homeowners. Paramount Energy Solutions has partnered with SolarCity®, the nation’s leading residential solar installer, to extend new solar options to homeowners across their service territories in California, Arizona and Oregon. Paramount Energy Solutions’ “Go Green Refi” allow homeowners to bundle the purchase price of a solar system into a home mortgage refinance at a reduced fee and interest rate.

Most recently, Hayes was instrumental in Paramount Equity entering into a partnership with Guthy-Renker LLC, the nation's largest direct-to-consumer marketing company.  This partnership will help expand the mortgage and consumer financial operation.  Guthy-Renker has assumed a significant equity position in the company. Guthy-Renker is one of the largest and most respected direct marketing companies in the world, with distribution in more than 61 countries. Since 1988, Guthy-Renker has discovered and developed dozens of high quality consumer products in the beauty, skincare, entertainment and wellness categories, including Proactiv, Meaningful Beauty by Cindy Crawford, Malibu Pilates and Ultimate Edge with Tony Robbins.

Stéphane Côme, President and CEO, LCS Technologies
Stéphane Côme is the co-founder and visionary behind LCS Technologies. During his 19 years as a System Architect and Oracle Database Tuning Expert for Oracle, Stéphane discovered that the root of most design and performance issues was not technology. It was the inability of technical teams to work efficiently and effectively together. He founded LCS Technologies to assemble the best human and technical teams possible to guide customers toward the successful implementation of their IT projects. Developing and connecting elite technical teams that can work together to solve customer problems first fulfills Stéphane’s vision. This is the essence of LCS Technologies, Inc.

Linda Beech Cutler, former VP at GenCorp/Aerojet
Linda Beech Cutler has served in a variety of senior management roles for both large and small technology companies, ranging from venture-backed startups to publicly traded corporations. From 2002-2010, Linda was a vice president at GenCorp, parent company of Aerojet, the preeminent local aerospace and defense company. Prior to that, she served as vice president of DST Systems (formerly USCS/CableData) one of the nation’s largest data processing and billing companies, primarily serving the telecommunications and financial services  industries.

Before moving to California, Linda had a leadership role in two entrepreneurial ventures in Boston. She was one of the original employees of Staples, the Office Superstore and the innovative technology venture, Eidak. The former was a lot more successful than the latter.

Active in the community, Linda is the past chair of the Sacramento Metro Chamber of Commerce. She is also a member of the Valley Vision Board of Directors, City Year Founding Committee and the Drexel Advisory Board. Linda is a former board member of the California Capital Air Show; the Folsom Chamber, the Folsom Economic Development Corporation and Department of Tourism, the Sacramento Area Trade and Commerce Organization (SACTO) and the Sacramento Metropolitan Arts Commission. Ms. Cutler is a graduate of the American Leadership Forum, Class X, and received her BA from Miami University, Oxford Ohio.

Rajiv Donde, President and CEO, Laru Corporation
Laru Corporation is a software company that provides ACH risk management solutions to financial institutions. He was previously the Director of Client Services for R Systems, an offshore and mainland Software Development Company based in El Dorado Hills, California where he spent time with US based clients and the offshore software development teams in India that served their needs.

Prior to joining R Systems, Rajiv was CIO of VantageMed, a healthcare software company, where he helped build the company’s technology organization, consolidate products and guide it through HIPAA regulations. Before this venture he co-founded AnyTime Access, an internet and call center based banking services company and saw it through its growth stage and successful acquisition. He has held senior level IT positions including CIO of several Banking and Healthcare organizations.

Before moving to the Sacramento area in 1996, Rajiv worked with the Ohio Department of Commerce as a Financial Institutions regulator, where he designed an Early Warning System to identify operational weaknesses in state regulated financial institutions. He also worked with American Share Insurance as VP of Risk Management and Information Systems to monitor the performance of insured financial institutions.

Rajiv has publicly addressed technology related subjects at several credit union events in Ohio and written several articles on risk management.

Rajiv has an MBA from Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland Ohio and a Masters degree in Economics from the Delhi School of Economics, India.

Frank Linnehan, Ph.D., Associate Dean of Graduate and Undergraduate Studies, Le Bow College of Business for Drexel University
Dr. Frank Linnehan is an Associate Dean for Graduate and Undergraduate Programs at Drexel University's LeBow College of Business and Professor of Management in the Department of Management. Dr. Linnehan received his PhD in Human Resources Administration from Temple University and has taught both graduate and undergraduate courses in Human Resources, Compensation, Organization Behavior, Leadership and Management. Prior to receiving his PhD, Dr. Linnehan worked for seventeen years in both line and Human Resource management in the financial services industry.

Dr. Linnehan's research interests include school-to-work transitions for high school and college students, adult-youth mentoring, Affirmative Action, Equal Employment and workforce diversity initiatives. He has authored or co-authored articles that have appeared in the Academy of Management Journal, Strategic Management Journal, Journal of Vocational Behavior, Group and Organization Management, Applied Psychology: An International Journal, Journal of Applied Social Psychology, Journal of Management Inquiry, Social Psychology of Education and Educational Evaluation and Policy Analysis. He is a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Vocational Behavior.
