Event Details

Professional nature photographer Tim Layton is hosting a photo workshop at the historic Sandy Creek Covered Bridge on Sunday June 29, 2014 from 8AM to 12 noon.  If you have any questions on directions, call Tim directly at 314.972.4900 or the Missouri go to the Missouri State Parks website for Sandy Creek and click on the "Get Directions" link.

My mission is simple: take my friends and guests to some of Missouri’s most beautiful places, help take your photography to the next level, and ensure you have a good time.

Venue Information

Sandy Creek Covered Bridge boasts the picture-perfect appearance of an old red barn. It was one of six bridges built in 1872 to allow passage from the Jefferson County seat of Hillsboro to St. Louis. John H. Morse built Sandy Creek Covered Bridge using the Howe-truss design, named for William Howe. Howe patented his design in 1840, which featured the use of vertical rods to draw wooden members tight against the top and bottom of the bridge. Three of the four remaining covered bridges in Missouri were built using the Howe-truss design, including Sandy Creek, Burfordville and Locust Creek covered bridges.

It doesn't matter where you find yourself in the world of photography; whether you need to enhance your technical knowledge and skills or need help with composition, whether this is all new to you or you're a seasoned veteran.  Tim Layton has been a photographer for 30 years and openly shares his love, passion, and knowledge of photography with everyone.

Workshop Information

Based on the unique venue, Tim Layton will include elements of architectural photography, environmental nature photography, and closeup/macro photography.  Tim will include information and guidance on: exposure, bracketing, natural lighting, lighting techniques, creative composition, architecture composition, and post processing tips.

The workshop will begin promptly at 8:00 AM and all planned activities will end at noon.  Often photographers will hang around longer and talk, network, and take additional photos.

Photo Gear

Bring whatever camera you have (film or digital).  A tripod and remote cable release is highly recommended.  A variety of focal lengths (wide angle 24mm to medium telephoto 100mm) and macro and/or closeup tubes will yield the best opportunities for images.

Note: all sales are final.  If you can't make the event for whatever reason, I am happy to honor your payment and allow you to attend a future event of your choice.

Other Things to Bring

  • Bug spray/repellent
  • Wading boots (there is a creek and you may want to get in water)
  • Extra water, snacks, or lunch (I provide bottled water for everyone)
  • Reflector, diffuser for macro photography
  • Notepad, pencil
  • Sunscreen
