Safe Routes to School Work Session
Monday, May 5, 2014 from 12:15 PM to 3:30 PM (EDT)
Live Healthy Fairfax is pleased to announce the Safe Routes to School workshop. This community workshop will address transportation issues around a particular school setting, including the creation of safe environments for all students, whether they walk, cycle, or arrive by bus or car. The agenda will include:
1. The observation of an elementary school dismissal;
2. A walking audit highlighting elements that can improve walkability and promote healthy lifestyles;
3. A presentation about the benefits of a Safe Routes to School program on a school community; and
4. A group discussion/planning for next steps for improving walkability and encouraging non-motorized transportation for school age children
As noted, we will begin the workshop by observing the Mt. Vernon Woods Elementary School dismissal. We will be gathering at 12:15 p.m. at the Mount Vernon Woods Park, across Fielding Street from the school. (A Live Healthy Fairfax sign will be posted at the meeting location.) Please dress appropriately for the weather and wear comfortable shoes.
Parking: You may park on Fielding Street or on the school property. DO NOT park on Sequoia Street.
