Sacramento Congressional Gold Medal Ceremony for the 442nd, 100th IB & MIS

On Saturday, May 26, 2012, Congresswoman Doris Matsui and community partners will host a Congressional Gold Medal Ceremony honoring surviving Japanese-American veterans who served in the 442nd Regimental Combat Team, 100th Infantry Battalion, and Military Intelligence Service during World War II, which collectively was awarded the Congressional Gold Medal in late 2011.
During the event, surviving veterans of these units who were not able to make it out to the official event in Washington, DC this past November will be presented with an official replica of the medal. Hosted in partnership with the Sacramento Japanese-American Citizens League, the Asian Community Center of Sacramento, and AARP, the event will take place at the California Museum in the Secretary of State’s Courtyard. Doors will open at 10:00 AM, the program will begin at 11:00 AM.
Eligible veterans who wish to be presented with a gold medal must reserve their seat and medal by acquiring a Congressional Gold Medal Recipient ticket above. Proof of service and eligibility required upon request by event organizers.
On November 2, 2011, the US Congress awarded the Congressional Gold Medals to 832 surviving members of the 442nd, 100th, and MIS, during the official ceremony in Washington, DC.
As many of the medal recipients do not use the computer, children and grandchildren of eligible surviving veterans are encouraged to RSVP on behalf of the veteran. Additionally, veterans who were able to make it to Washington, DC and have recieved a medal are encouraged to RSVP as they will be recognized.
