About Run Montecito - Summerland
The 3rd Annual RMS will be hosted on Saturday, July 20th, 2013, and will feature a Half Marathon, 10k and 5k distance divisions. The 2014 RMS will move to Saturday September 20th
Entering our third year, we’d like to extend a sincere thank you to all past and future entrants for your valued (enthusiastic!) feedback; based on your support and suggestions we’ve raised the bar on your experience level a few notches higher for 2013. At the request of several entrants we have add the Legacy Entrant option to the 2013 RMS. RMS will start and finish at Café Luna, Summerland’s coolest restaurant and café, centrally located on Lillie Ave. in downtown Summerland. Our course signage has received significant improvements as well, and we’ve added a dedicated staff specifically for directing runners at course turn locations.
Run Montecito-Summerland consists of a modified loop course. It’s a combination of fast flats, some challenging hill climbs and breezy, scenic descents that wind through some of California’s exquisite Live Oak tree-lined streets. July also promises a cool morning start followed by a warm, sunny finish with stunning views of the Pacific Ocean, Channel Islands and your own personal tour of some of Montecito’s grandest mansions.
Please join us for a run or walk through the meticulously maintained Montecito and the quaint seaside hamlet of Summerland—both representative of California’s collection of phenomenal coastal communities. Come for the event but stay for the locale. Summerland boasts several of the best burger joints anywhere: The Nugget, a rustic gourmet old-school tavern; Stacky’s, with a menu so big it’s like reading a well-crafted pulp novel; Tinker’s, a cozy slice of diner with awesome curly fries; and of course our base, Café Luna, with outdoor seating that feels like you’re kicking back in your backyard guest house.
Endurancesmith was founded in October 2012 as a rebranding of the original; Blacksmith Endurance Co. With the collaboration of Mark Hartell, the organization has set out to broaden its portfolio of signature world class human-powered endurance races for destination endurance race travelers, in addition to local and regional area endurance enthusiast. Endurancesmith founder, Robert Gilcrest, a born and raised Santa Barbarian and general building contractor, claimed, “There are many elements that compelled me to nurture the development of Endurancesmith and these epic events: my personal life journey, a passion for the ocean, a love for the Santa Barbara backcountry, 25 years of local custom home building and project management, my success and growth as a business man, my desire and commitment to develop methods of philanthropic contribution for the Santa Barbara community but most important, to instill and foster a legacy of stewardship with and for our children.”
Endurancesmith has expanded its development of human-powered endurance events beyond the rural areas of Santa Barbara and regional sections of the Los Padres National Forest Multi-use Area to include the Santa Ynez Valley area; Endurancesmith hopes to take advantage of this world renowned, destination travel region, temperate climate, and year round outdoor lifestyle and plethora of untapped venues to create a broad series of races that will include trail running, mountain bike, road running, road bike, triathlon and SUP/prone paddleboard disciplines
Endurancesmith events are developed and run with passion, professionalism, friendly to the environment, community and designed for the whole family to get involved. Proceeds support area youth and social organizations, the preservation of our local resources and stewards of the Multi-use trails community.
