Event Details

The Royal Rounders is a group fronted by keyboardist David Roe that features two music business All Stars, Jerry Jumonville and Fred Staehle.  The Royal Rounders are a jazz band defined not only by their repertoire but by their approach to playing music.  They play jazz standards but also reach beyond traditional jazz songs to improvise on tunes from any genre of music.  Whatever the source, they use a variety of music and melody to entertain and add energy to their performance.  It's Traditional New Orleans Jazz played Untraditionally.

Bandleader David Roe has traveled the world playing music.  He first moved to New Orleans in the 1970's where he lived above Tipitina's and worked with a band in the French Quarter.  He has been leading The Royal Rounders for 20 years.

Saxophonist Jerry Jumonville was playing with Professor Longhair, Ernie K-Doe, Johnny Adams and Al Hirt starting in the late 50's.  Jerry moved to California in 1966 where he worked as a composer, arranger and studio musician with artists like Dr. John, Ringo Starr, Bonnie Raitt, Rod Stewart, Van Morrison.  You can hear Jerry's horn arrangements on The Doobie Brothers "Toulouse Street" recording in 1972.  Jerry appeared in film as Bette Midler’s sax player in the movie “The Rose,” and also the film documentary “Festival Express.” that follows Janis Joplin, the Grateful Dead, The Band, Sha Na Na and other artists as they tour Canada by rail.  He's been back in New Orleans since 1991.

Drummer Freddy Staehle started performing by the time he was 8 years old.  He was a member of Al Hirt's band in the late 60's.  He played drums on Dr. John's 1972 release "Dr. John's Gumbo".
