"The success of the RootsCamp...helps explain the yawning digital divide between the two parties... RootsCamp has served as a crash course in best practices for thousands of lefties."

--Robert Draper, Can the Republicans Be Saved From Obsolescence?" New York Times Magazine, February 14, 2013

What is RootsCamp?
RootsCamp isn’t your everyday gathering; it’s an “unconference.” Instead of pre-set powerpoints and “expert” panels, participants design sessions and decide the program. The idea is to bring together progressives of all stripes as equals, and have an honest exchange of ideas. When we learn from one another, we take away new ideas, make new connections, and strengthen our work.

In the past, participants have come from all over the country, and even around the globe. We’ve had data geeks from the biggest national campaigns trading lessons learned with field innovators from school board races in Pittsburgh. Or climate change organizers from Switzerland sharing best practices with marriage equality advocates from Maine. It's all there and the more people we have, the more ideas will get turned into world-changing campaigns!

It’s also a rare opportunity for D.C. insiders to interact directly with people fighting on the front lines, and a unique space to begin an honest discussion about what worked, what didn’t, and how we grow stronger together.

What’s My Role?
Your perspective is unique. Whether you develop and lead a session, or simply participate in the conversation, we hope you’ll come and share your experiences, knowledge and skills. You won’t just be networking and attending discussions: you’ll be helping define our work over the coming years by sharing the lessons you learned this year.

Want to be a help bring as many as possible to RootsCamp? So do we.
We believe that cost should not be a barrier to participation, so we keep the registration fee as low as possible for RootsCamp. But there are real costs involved in hosting such an engaging and dynamic event. If you'd like to learn more about how you can sponsor bringing other organizers to the event, meals, electricity, A/V or something else, please contact Jamie McGonnigal at jamie@neworganizing.com

**Unfortunately, due to budgeting and limitations, we cannot offer refunds. If you cannot join us and have already purchased a registration, you may either donate that registration to a Rootscamper who otherwise could not afford to come, or email us at rootscamp@neworganizing.com to let us know if you'd like to change the name on your reservation.

Organizer

New Organizing Institute

We’re a community of organizers, and we’re committed to solving the biggest challenges that stand in the way of change.

Our basic belief is simple: if people have the skills to engage others, the tools to build powerful campaigns, and a community of practice to help them learn and grow, they can win real change, make measurable improvements in people’s lives, and restore faith in our government and our democracy.

We train organizers to build and manage effective movements by integrating tried-and-true community organizing, cutting-edge digital strategy, and data-driven decision making. We provide free access to revolutionary tools, technologies, and research to help campaigns reach the next level. And we build a community of practice that connects organizers across issues, creating a more integrated, more diverse, and more dynamic movement for change.

We're working to produce the best leaders and strongest movements of our generation. We help campaigns win today, while working to build capacity and infrastructure that will allow us to keep winning into the next generation.
