Rogue Artists Ensemble's HYPERBOLE: bard - 2nd Friday
Friday, July 19, 2013 from 4:30 PM to 5:30 PM (PDT)
San Francisco, California
London, United Kingdom
11am-2pm: Docents available to discuss the site at the Marion Davies Guest House
Rogue Artists Ensemble performs HYPERBOLE: bard, the culmination of their Residency at the Beach House. HYPERBOLE: bard is an original, family-friendly performance that recreates a collection of William Shakespeare’s most famous scenes through clowning, masked movement, puppets, and original music.
Join a group of mischievous street performers who invade the Beach House and transform the place into an imaginative playground, with giant puppets, flowers, a storm that coalesces before your eyes - this is Shakespeare remixed, Rogue Artists Ensemble style! Embracing a do it yourself approach, the troupe reminds viewers of the limitless potential of even the most simple of objects, with a signature blend of whimsy, spectacle and charm.
HYPERBOLE: bard is directed by Sean T. Cawelti and developed by members of Rogue Artists Ensemble: Cristina Bercovitz, Sean T. Cawelti, Taylor Coffman, Stephen Elrod, Julia Garcia-Combs. Sam Gold, Matthew G. Hill, Noelle Hoffman, Kerry Hennessy, Jack Pullman, and Miles Taber.
HYPERBOLE: bard is performed by Daniel Mk Cohen, Taylor Coffman, Sam Gold, Derek Petropolis, and Miles Taber.
Bring layers and sun protection as the show takes place outside the Guest House in the sunken garden area. Latecomers may be seated on the plaza or stand at the boardwalk (obstructed views).
Rogue Artists Ensemble is in residence at the Beach House from June 3 - July 19, 2013. The Ensemble is a collective of multi-disciplinary artists who create Hyper-theater, an innovative hybrid of theater traditions, puppetry, mask work, dance, music, and modern technology. Through a collaborative development process, with an emphasis on design and storytelling, the Rogues create original, thought-provoking performances, and cultivate unique audience experiences that appeal to multiple generations of theatergoers in order to expand the boundaries of contemporary American theater. The last Rogue Artists Ensemble HYPERBOLE project, HYPERBOLE: origins, was performed at [Inside] the Ford in 2010 and was nominated for production of the year by the LA Weekly.
Their public events include various rehearsals and events onsite. For updates and to check on their progress check their blog at beachhouseair.blogspot.com.
In celebration of Marion Davies’ artistry and her support of artists, and to further the work of artists in all disciplines, the City of Santa Monica created the Annenberg Community Beach House Artist Residency program.
