San Francisco, CA
Enjoy eleven hours of robot films & festivities on Saturday July 20, culminating in the annual Botskers award ceremony, our own red carpet robot-Oscars! Then make your own robot film with Bot & Dolly at the workshop on Sunday July 21!
After two evocative summers in NYC, the Robot Film Festival is entering its third year of bringing artful, witty, and cutting-edge films to film and tech lovers like you! This year will be the first full Robot Film Festival in San Francisco, harnessing the region’s vibrant fusion of arts and technology, taking place at the studios of Bot & Dolly, a Potrero Hill based robotics studio and leader in robot control, interfaces, and development.
The main event, consisting of short film screenings and Botskers award ceremony will be Saturday, July 20, 2013 from 10:45am-10pm. Guests are encouraged to bring a costume change, as the red carpet gets rolled out 7:00 sharp! The workshop on Sunday, July 21, 2013 from 12pm-4pm will be a chance to make a film with robots yourselves, courtesy of Bot & Dolly!
This year's theme: "FORM versus FUNCTION: Can you judge a robot by its casings?"
The Saturday events open complimentary donuts & mimosas at 10:45am, followed by three segments of short film screenings featuring 42 robot short films and introductions by Evan Ackerman of IEEE Spectrum and Dr. Kiki Sanford, Science communicatior. After a complementary wood-fire pizza dinner, we will open the red carpet for the Botskers Cocktail Party. The official awards ceremony of the Robot Film Festival, the "Botskers," will honor the 3D-printed statuette winners in a black tie, red carpet gala with performances by Joey Mousepad, Suppositori Spelling, Data the Robot, Agatron and Black Jeans. The festival is a pioneer in investigating the human-machine relationship in front of the lens, particularly aiming to promote positive storytelling about robotics. Most films will be available for viewing online sometime in the next week. Until then, enjoy previous year's films at: http://vimeo.com/groups/robotfilmfest
This is not your ordinary film festival. The brainchild of Heather Knight, founder of Marilyn Monrobot, the 3rd annual Robot Film Festival is in San Francisco for the first time! Hosted by Bot & Dolly in Potrero Hill and co-organized by Marek Michalowski and Chrys Wu, the festival aims to create an interdisciplinary community that lives on after the event.
