Craig Hickman created Kid Pix; an easy-to-use paint program to encourage children to use the computer. Originally intending to give the program away, Hickman was able to design it exactly how he wanted. Join us on August 5th, 2014 for the third installment of RKS Sessions and learn how Hickman incubated his idea into a mass commercial success. Hickman will take the audience through his guiding design principles, showing how he was able to turn an innovative concept into an iconic program.
The third event in the series, RKS Sessions brings together luminaries and ideas focused on cutting edge user-experience, brand, service and product design. A monthly design-centric event series, it is jointly produced by RKS and Cross Campus. RKS Sessions is also a forum for the design community to share their ideas.

About Craig Hickman
Craig Hickman is the creator of Kid Pix, a pioneering computer paint program first published by Broderbund Software in 1991 and still popular today. It was inspired by his three year-old son Ben. Kid Pix introduced many innovations including ubiquitous audio-visual effects, humor and the element of surprise. When first released, it won the Software Publishers Association award for having the best user interface of any program published that year. Today, Kid Pix is an essential component of primary school curriculum in many school districts.
In 2014, as part of Apple’s 30 year birthday celebration of the Macintosh, Craig Hickman was acknowledged on their yearly timeline as having made a significant contribution to the field with his creation of Kid Pix.
Craig Hickman is also a Professor of Art at the University of Oregon where he has taught digital arts and photography courses for the past 25 years. He continues to be an active photographer and also works in the area of physical computing and device art.
