“Riverwalk is ecstatic to announce the addition of Cowboy Mouth to our annual Lundi Gras entertainment lineup. Cowboy Mouth is known internationally and Riverwalk is thrilled to welcome the band home to New Orleans for our annual Lundi Gras celebration,” said Frank Quinn, Riverwalk Marketplace General Manager. “In its 27th year, Riverwalk’s Lundi Gras is a special event that deserves top-notch entertainment and this year’s musicians will definitely make it a memorable event for our local and visiting revelers who are here to enjoy Mardi Gras in New Orleans.”
Riverwalk’s Lundi Gras at Spanish Plaza is a free music event for attendees of all ages. In an effort to keep the event free and safe for the public, please no ice chests, outside food or beverage, pets or skateboards on Riverwalk’s Spanish Plaza during Lundi Gras festivities.
The arrival of Rex, King of Carnival, dates back to 1915 when His Majesty was welcomed to Mardi Gras by boat on the Mississippi River. In 1986, when Riverwalk Marketplace was just opening its doors, New Orleans Magazine’s Errol Laborde noticed the need for a festival to observe the historic celebration on the river and identified the Monday before Fat Tuesday for music and fireworks. Riverwalk and Laborde partnered to transform the longtime tradition of welcoming Rex to Mardi Gras on Riverwalk’s Spanish Plaza and named this day and festive celebration, Lundi Gras. Now in its 27th year, Lundi Gras at Riverwalk’s Spanish Plaza has become an integral part of the internationally beloved New Orleans Mardi Gras experience.
