How do you #Rethink the CEO?
The title CEO conjures up images of square-jawed financial wizards – no nonsense leaders who know their way around a spreadsheet and use terms like ROI and shareholder value. But most CEOs today are woefully underprepared to run the company of the future, because they have no training in the power of story. Ty Montague, co-CEO of co:collective argues that the most successful companies in the world today are actually run by leaders who understand the core narrative of their business, and enact that story in the world through every action their company takes. Montague calls these companies storydoing companies and will explain how the future belongs to leaders who operate more like Chief Story Officers than CEOs.
Ty Montague, launched co:collective in September of 2010, with his partners Rosemarie Ryan, Neil Parker and Richard Schatzberger, after 20+ years in traditional advertising. Co:collective is a growth and innovation accelerator that specializes in inventing and re-inventing products, businesses and brands. Co: has been engaged by YouTube, Google, Microsoft, GE and Kohl's among others. Ty is happiest when things are under construction, which may be why he has spent his career as an innovator and agent of change. As Co-President and Chief Creative Officer of JWT North America, Ty and his partner Rosemarie Ryan helped lead a 5-year transformation of the agency. This effort culminated with JWT being named Adweek magazine's 2009 Global Agency of the Year – the first award of its kind for JWT and parent company, WPP. Prior to that Ty launched and helped build the New York office of Bartle Bogle Hegarty, ran the New York office of Wieden + Kennedy and worked at the New York office of Chiat Day. Ty is an author and frequent speaker on the topics of innovation, business transformation and the power of story. His first book True Story: How to Combine Story and Action to Transform Your Business (2013 Harvard Business Press) comes out July 16th, this year. Creativity magazine has named Ty one of the 50 most influential creatives of the past 20 years, Advertising Age named him one of the Top 10 Creative Directors in America and Fast Company magazine named him one of the Top Ten Creative Minds in business.
#Rethink is a free monthly morning speaker series for free radicals. Each event includes a 30-minute speaker presentation and group discussion beginning at 8:30am, followed by 30 minutes of networking before everyone heads off to begin the workday.
