Each year 65,000 people in the U.S. with diabetes lose a foot or leg to complications from the disease. Proper foot care and screening for problems can often be the first line of defense in lowering the risk of amputation.
The American Diabetes Association (ADA) in partnership with the Office of Minority Health (OMH), Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), and the Amputee Coalition of American invite you to Stop Diabetes From Knocking You Off Your Feet!
During the month of April to help increase awareness of diabetes and risk factors for lower extremity amputation the ADA and OMH are recruiting communities to hold health screening events that include diabetes screenings and foot checks.
This initiative is calling to action:
Community Health Workers
Public Health Workers
Healthcare Professionals (physicians, physician assistants, nurses, pharmacists, physical and occupational therapists, and health professional students)
To Stop Diabetes From Knocking You Off Your Feet! by hosting or performing community screening events durning the month of April
Sites that register to conduct screening events under this initiative will be provided with FREE
Foot Screening Kits
Health Educational Materials
and a list of health clinics in their community where clients can be referred for diagnosis and treatment.

The HHS Office of Minority Health and American Diabetes Association are teaming up to promote Limb Loss Awareness Month. To raise awareness of diabetes and amputation risk through community health education and health screening events during the month of April to "Stop Diabetes From Knocking You Off Your Feet".
