Sacred Music Workshop
The winter 2013 sessions of SMW will focus on music for Holy Week. All workshop sessions will address fundamentals of choral music including vocal technique, ear training, sight singing, and harmony. Additionally, each session will include rehearsal of repertoire related to the theme of the day. Directed by Sven Edward Olbash, and presented by Lacuna Arts.
Session IV: Holy Thursday, pt 1 January 7th, 14th & 21st 7:00–9:00 pm
Music by Isaac, Palestrina & Bach, the Gloria from Josquin's "Missa Pange lingua," modern compositions by Richard Rice & David Conte, and an overview of Gregorian chant.
Session V: Holy Thursday, pt 2 February 4th, 11th & 18th 7:00–9:00 pm
Motets by Schütz, Eberlin, & Martini, modern compositions by Pinkham & Durufle, plus simple English settings by Dom Gregory Murray & Columba Kelly, OSB.
Sing-a-Long: The Seven Last Words of Christ (Gounod) March 4th 6:30–9:30 pm
A brief rehearsal of the choral sections will be followed by a complete read-through with soloists and pipe organ. Note special time for this event, 6:30-9:30 pm.
