Regional Floodplain Management Workshop

 $15 Registration Fee Includes Lunch

Objective: This course is designed to provide an overview of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) and discuss changes resulting from the Biggert-Waters Flood Insurance Reform Act of 2012 and the new Community Rating System manual.  The workshop will also include a review of effective mitigation strategies and the Coastal Resilience Index tool.  An interactive, facilitated panel discussion will provide an opportunity for attendees to ask questions pertaining to the course content.  

Intended Audience: Floodplain Administrators, CRS Coordinators, Government officials, Community Decision makers, Building, Planning, Public Works, Engineers 

Continuing Education Credits

  • Approved for 4.5 CFM CECs

This workshop will include:

  • Information about the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP)
  • Highlights of research on the Community Rating System (CRS) and effectiveness of flood mitigation techniques for communities 
  • Updates to NFIP based on Biggert-Waters Act
  • Introductions to using Green Infrastructure for flood protection 
  • Coastal Resilience Index: Community Self-Assessment
  • Hands-on experience with the CRS evaluation process and potential for improvements in a community’s CRS rating
  • Information about the CRS and recent changes to the system
  • Opportunities to network with other communities also interested in saving money on their flood insurance to share creative
