This is a vow to take refuge in the three jewels, the Buddha, the dharma and the sangha; a formal commitment to the Buddhist path of practice and study in our lineage.
It is open to anyone who sincerely wants to take the vow, as long as they have studied and practiced for a while and understand what the meaning of the vow.
Participants are encouraged meet with their meditation instructor and have studied theRefuge Vow Sourcebook, which contains suggested readings can be ordered here.

Prior to the ceremony, an interview with Acharya Schwartz is required. The interview will take approximately 15 minutes. The following are the opportunities for interviews; please indicate on your application form which of these interviews you would like to select.
Sunday, March 9, 2014, 2-5 p.m. at San Francisco Shambhala Center
Saturday, March 15, 2014, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Berkeley Shambhala Center
The Refuge Vow ceremony will take place on Sunday, March 22nd beginning at 4 PM. Participants are asked to arrive at 3:15 PM to settle in and receive instructions for the ceremony. Those taking the vow may bring guests. A reception will follow.
As is traditional, please consider offering a heart gift (amount is up to you) to Acharya Schwartz at the interview or ceremony.
