Event Details

There are over 100 languages spoken in the San Francisco Bay area, and on July 30 we invite you to join The Rosetta Project and Mightyverse in the Record-a-thon – an attempt to record at least 50 of them in a single day!

The Record-a-thon will take place at The Internet Archive, and recordings made during the event will be uploaded during the event to The Rosetta Project’s open collection of all human languages in The Internet Archive.

The action-packed day’s events will include talks about the importance of endangered languages and the value of grassroots language documentation efforts as well as structured recording sessions in the morning and afternoon.

Participants are encouraged to bring their multilingual friends and family members and record them telling stories and having conversations using common video-enabled devices like mobile phones, digital cameras and laptops.

Professional linguists and videographers will be on hand to guide participants through the video documentation process.

At the end of the day, we'll tally the submissions and then celebrate with an evening celebration with awards and cool prizes for the participant who uploads the most recordings, records the most languages, and much more!

Please RSVP for this free event!  We'll send you additional information soon with more details about the day's events and activities you can participate in!
