RECLAIMING the CONVERSATION on EDUCATION
Saturday, May 4, 2013 from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM (EDT)
New York, United States
San Francisco, California
London, United Kingdom
What: Conference on Reclaiming the Conversation on Education
When: Saturday, May 4, 2013 (9:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m.)
Where: Barnard College at Columbia University, NY, NY
Who should attend: P-12 Educators and Administrators, Teacher Educators, Parents, Advocacy Groups, Scholars, and Students
Why: Working toward the goal of reclaiming the conversation on education, participants in this two-day conference will
· Share their experiences with educational “reforms”;
· Imagine and articulate equitable and sustainable alternatives to current educational “reforms”;
· Build coalitions and support resistance to the standardization, privatization and corporate take-over of education.
If you want to move beyond the focus on test scores, performance outcomes, standardization, and data aggregation, if you are tired of seeing your students deprived of real educational opportunities, if you worry teaching is being reduced to test prep and educators are losing their autonomy and academic freedom, and if you believe all our children should have access to a curriculum and extra-curriculum that are far more engaging than stripped down cram courses or subsistence level job training, then this is the conference for you.
This conference is sponsored by Barnard Education Program and is supported by an anonymous donor, the North Star Fund, PSC CUNY, & the Shirley Chisholm Project.
