Title: Reality Impacts Energy Use: Lessons from the “First Ten”
Speakers: Julia Gauthier, LEED® AP and Jason Steinbock, BEMP, LEED® AP
Explore energy use and efficiency opportunity from design intent to operation through specific examples of ten Iowa commercial buildings and see how these examples may translate to improved operational performance for your building.
Alliant Energy commissioned a study of the first ten buildings to complete their Commercial New Construction (CNC) program in Iowa to compare design projections with operational achievements after at least one year of service. The CNC program provides Energy Design Assistance to owners and design teams to evaluate alternative energy efficiency strategies for new and renovated building projects during design.
The study used utility bills, weather corrections, field observations and owner surveys to understand the actual energy use in these buildings. This allowed for updated model projections for the buildings, resulting in real-world observations about operational changes. Other owners and building operators can learn from these observations in evaluating their own energy use patterns.
