ABOUT THE SEMINAR

Taught by Jim Leonard
Classroom S11
July 13 - Part 1
July 20 - Part 2

The “Great Divorce” of the title is the vast difference between Heaven and Hell in this entertaining and insightful parable about a man who travels from the latter to the former on a tour. C. S. Lewis uses this device to give us a chance to look at our present lives from a future perspective. Lewis was a professor of mythology at Oxford University in England when he came (very reluctantly) to belief in Jesus through the influence of J. R. R. Tolkein and others. From that point on he poured out a river of stories and essays about living the Christian life. He is probably best known for his children’s series, “The Narnia Chronicles”. If you have never read anything by him, this short and fun book is a great introduction. If you know him already, you know what a treat you are in for. Two sessions of discussion on successive Sundays. Book is available in libraries, most bookstores and as an ebook. In order to make the best use of our time, you should be prepared to read approximately the first half of the book before the first meeting (addiction alert: once you start reading, you may be unable to stop).
