Raising the Bottoms; A Course in Therapeutic Addiction Intervention

This course offers a unique blend of traditional Johnson Intervention wisdom and a series of task-oriented strategies that provide the therapist with a clear framework that facilitates motivation to change and "raises the bottom" of knowledge for the intervention team (IT) members, the addicted person (AP), and the treatment process.

The model takes the therapist well beyond the traditional notion that the main objective is to get the addict into treatment and holds that a successful intervention gets everyone who needs help treatment and that the treatment matches the identified needs. The model addresses the therapeutic needs of the concerned others in a way that greatly reduces the protagonist's resistance to getting help and promotes a shared model of recovery rather than focusing on the "addict as the identified patient model" which can be shaming and often thwarts the intended goal of offering help.
