Event Details

Dear friends,

Approximately 78,000 people are living in poverty in Raleigh/Wake County, with many more at the risk of homelessness. Each night there are on average, 1100 people including 200 children who are homeless in Wake County.  Tragically, former foster care youth are most at risk for future homelessness, 3 in 10 of the nation’s homeless adults have a history in the foster care system. With only 2% of former foster care youth graduating from college, it is imperative that we break the cycle of poverty and homelessness by focusing on preventing homelessness for those most vulnerable – our community youth.

The Hope Center Foster Youth Academy provides Wake County foster youth ages 13 to 22 with the following support and services: permanent connections to caring adults through mentoring; assistance with the management of their physical and mental health needs; individual mental health services and group work; support with economic success through career and education planning and support; employment development services; life skills training to help them navigate the adult world; and improved access to stable and safe housing. We have just completed our successful first year of this program, and enrolled 24 participants.


However, to continue the impact of The Hope Center and the Foster Youth Academy—and to reach our goal of enrolling an additional 25 youth in the coming year—we need your help. Each year, the Raising Hope Dinner helps us reach our fundraising goals that enable us to carry out the work of The Hope Center.  This year’s dinner will be held on Sunday, May 5th in Finlator Hall at Pullen Memorial Baptist Church. We will have a great meal, a silent auction, and the chance to hear from some of our participants who are making great strides toward their personal goals as a result of their engagement with the Hope Center. Our reception begins at 5:30 p.m.

We hope that you will consider attending or sponsoring this year’s dinner. Your support will not only help us secure the resources needed for 2013, but they will also go towards a generous matching donation opportunity with The Stewards Fund. This opportunity will allow each donation to make a significant contribution toward the success of The Hope Center program participants.
