Trumpeter, composer, and bandleader, Rachel Therrien already boasts an enviable CV and is considered as one of the most promising jazz musicians in the North American music scene, playing in a variety of music styles and enriching her talent with experiences from many different cultures. Winner of the 2015 TD Grand Prize Jazz Award at the Montreal International Jazz Festival, she has shared stages in clubs, concerts and TV shows all around North and South America and the Caribbean with many world-class musicians.
Therrien holds a bachelor’s degree in jazz performance from University of Montreal, a degree in arts management, a certificate from Instituto Supérior de Arte, in Havana-Cuba and she was selected to participate in 2012, to the Banff Center Jazz and Creative Music workshop held by Dave Douglas and Vdjay Iyer. She has worked with a large number of mentors and teachers including Ron DiLauro, Elpidio Chappotin, Laurie Frink, John McNeil, Jonathan Finlayson, Clarence Penn, Ralph Alessi, and many more.
She has released two records; “On Track” - Rachel Therrien Quintet (2011), “Home Inspiration” - Rachel Therrien Quintet (2014), and soon be releasing her new afro-colombian inspired jazz album, “Pensamiento”, that was recorded in Bogota, Colombia also as the production of a third album with her Montreal Quintet.
Her Latin Jazz Quartet, playing with some of the best musicians in New York City, presenting all of her original compositions and arrangements inspired by Cuban, Caribbean and South American culture.
