Punk the Monk.
What in the what? Punking a monk? Sounds like something that would amass scorn from the Vatican!
Have no fear, this race and challenge is not only Vatican approved*, but also more fun that watching Ashton Kutcher attempt another lame gag on some celebrity that we have all already forgotten about. So turn off MTV2 and hit the trails!
Punk the Monk 5k is a trail race and challenge all in one. The race will take place on the amazing trails of Deer Grove Forest Preserve. The trail will be nearly 100% single track and offers some of the most fun terrain we’ve been able to find. There are some technical sections that will test your trail running skills as you’ll be dodging roots, downed trees, twists and turns, and other natural obstacles that will make this race crazier than Nick Nolte’s hair in his infamous mug shot.
The challenge will be to punk the Monk! Our race director will be running this race in a monk costume. If you beat him, you will get a special “I Punked the Monk” award! Our race director’s 5k PR is just over 21 minutes, but has recently been doing training runs around 10 min/mile. So train hard, hit the trails, and try your hardest to punk the Monk!
All runners will receive: a Punk the Monk 5k tshirt, a Punk the Monk finisher’s award, race bib, one free beer (for those of legal age), and free food, soft drinks, and snacks following the race. If you beat the Monk then you will receive a special “I Punked the Monk” award!
A course map and waiver will be posted on our website at least one month before the race.
The race will be at 10am on Saturday, March 9, 2013. Click here for exact parking location (http://goo.gl/maps/O3viq).

When & Where
We love people. We love Chicago. We love trail running. And we love good beer. We thought it would be a good idea to combine them all. Why not, right?
Our goal is to provide Chicagoland with the best possible trail running experience. From the course design to the staff at the aid stations to the beer served at the after party, our #1 goal is for you to have the best time possible.
We are partnering with local small businesses in the Chicagoland area to start a series of trail races beginning in the fall of 2012.
Hope to see you on the trail soon!
