[This class has been rescheduled from its original date, January 28th, due to bad weather.]
Three of our Kids Plus Providers -- Kerry McGee, MD, Susan Stevens, MD, and Katie Lamendola, CRNP -- will offer an entertaining, informative, interactive workshop that focuses on the physical and emotional changes of adolescence. This fun, fast-paced class for 9-12 year-old girls and their Moms (or other female mentors) includes some teaching, some learning activities, and plenty of time for questions, answers, and open discussion.
Some of our goals for the class are to:
• Start talking to each other! Discussing sexuality and adolescence can be hard. We want to make it easier by jump-starting that conversation in class, so you can continue it at home.
• Give good, up-to-date information in fun, dynamic setting. We'll include some activities to help make things more fun and less awkward.
• Promote a healthy self-image. We want to help, teach, and empower young women for their futures.
• Create a comfortable, supportive environment to talk about issues facing adolescent girls.
The class, meets at The Well, our community meeting and education space, just a few doors down from our Squirrel Hill/Greenfield office.
The class is open to the entire community, not just to Kids Plus patients and families.
The cost of the class is $30 per Girl/Adult Pair, which includes class materials, snacks, and copy of the new, revised edition of the excellent The Care and Keeping of You: The Body Book for Young Girls. One registration and ticket will admit the pair.
You can read more about the class, including the reactions of Moms who've already taken it, on our web site: http://bit.ly/PubertySeriously
