Start Local, Go Global - How Central Florida Bloggers Can Increase Your Reach


7:30-9 a.m. May 16 at the Citrus Club

Networking begins at 7:30 a.m.; the program begins promptly at 8 a.m. 

A panel of Central Florida bloggers with regional and national reach will share specific insights on how they add value for brands, what they see on the horizon in their niches and in social media and what they’ve learned from running successful regional and national campaigns.


Our panelists include Bess Auer, Melanie Edwards and Amanda Keefer.  


Bess Auer is an educator, entrepreneur, and published novelist. She got her blogging start as the founder of the Central Florida Top 5 which was awarded “Best Neighborhood Blog” by the Orlando Sentinel in 2009. She then went on to be a featured blogger for three of Chevy’s “Girls on the Go” social media campaigns. Her continuous promotion of “all things local” lead Bess to found the Florida Blogger & Social Media Conference. Now in its third year, FLBlogCon features the state’s biggest bloggers and social media pros at a one-day gathering for networking and exploring the digital realm. In addition to blogging, Bess is a passionate swim mom, which lead her to start FloridaSwimNetwork.com, a company that livestreams competitive swim meets from across the state of Florida. Most weekends you can find her poolside hanging with Ryan Lochte and other Olympians from the Sunshine State or working on her next book. Bess is also Park Maitland School’s technology teacher who helps students learn about blogging, digital citizenship, and using mobile media.  


Melanie Edwards is the founder and editor of modernmami™.com, an award-winning lifestyle blog, and owner of Ella Media. Melanie holds a degree in Industrial & Systems Engineering and over 10 years experience in Information Technology. She has spoken at various social media conferences, including Type-A Parent, Blogalicious Weekend, and BlogHer. Through Ella Media, Melanie provides digital marketing services for bloggers and brands and focuses on connecting businesses with today’s digital Latina. Amanda Keefer is author of The Mamma Mia Blog and also serves as the manager of public relations and social media at Produce for Kids. Amanda started The Mamma Mia Blog and an associated Twitter handle in 2008 when several of her clients had questions about blogging, bloggers and social media. She felt the best client recommendations would result from actual participation in the trend. What was a test turned out to be Nickelodeon's Top Mom Blog in Orlando in 2009. By 2010 Amanda had partnered on campaigns with several major brands such as Leapfrog, Pinkberry and Sony. Amanda landed her position with Produce for Kids as manager of public relations and social media in 2011 due to the knowledge she possessed in reaching the mom market through blogs and social outreach. She now manages a team of bloggers, known as  Parents on Produce, who contribute regularly to produceforkids.com, host Twitter parties and more. She also works on healthy eating and campaign focused initiatives with national bloggers for Produce for Kids. In addition, Amanda was discovered by a SheKnows.com editor in 2011 and has since served as the SheKnows.com Orlando City Guide writer. PRSA Orlando recently reached its financial goal of endowing the scholarhsip by raising $25,000, but there is still much more to do.

Your contribution to the PRSA Orlando/Frank R. Stansberry Scholarshipat UCF will help encourage bright, eager young men and women to major in public relations and become the next generation of practitioners.

The Citrus Club is located on the 18th floor of the BB&T Bank Building, at the corner of Orange Avenue and Jackson Street in downtown Orlando. Parking is available in the Jackson Street parking lot and the Lincoln  garage on Orange Avenue. Meter parking is also available on the adjacent streets. Unfortunately, we do not validate parking.
