Faith in New Jersey (formerly known as PICO NJ)
Faith in New Jersey (formerly known as PICO NJ) and Camden Churches Organized for People (CCOP)
We are a multi-racial and multi-faith network of faith communities across New Jersey working together to advance a racial and economic justice agenda at the local, state and federal level, and we are affiliated with the PICO National Network.
We develop grassroots community leaders, analyze the policy blueprints of our communities, and mobilize voters to effectively act on the prophetic call of our faith communities to build the Beloved Community.
Along with our Camden affiliate, Camden Churches Organized for People (CCOP), Faith in New Jersey has a team of 8 organizers working with community leaders and allies to secure policy change at the local, state and federal levels. CCOP has a 29-year track record of success, helping to forge partnerships to improve conditions for working families in Camden.
For the past two years, we have worked with partners in Camden, Trenton and Newark to improve health outcomes in urban centers by engaging and empowering residents and providers in high-cost/high-need healthcare “hot spots” to improve the delivery of care. We are currently working with faith leaders in Newark and Camden to reduce violence and support re-entry for formerly incarcerated individuals, and are organizing with faith leaders and allies across the state to advance an immigrant rights agenda.
The PICO National Network (www.piconetwork.org) involves more than 1500 congregations in 17 states across the US in faith-based community organizing initiatives to reduce racial and economic disparities – making us one of the largest community-based efforts in the country.
