Course Description: The course teaches the basic tasks involved in the administration of a Progress OpenEdge database. The course explains the OpenEdge RDBMS architecture and familiarizes you with database administration tools. It teaches how to create a database, and how to start up and shut down a database. It also teaches how back up and restore a database and how to implement roll-forward recovery. In addition, the course covers how to dump and load a database for maintenance. You will practice these administration tasks by performing exercises in the course.
Course Prerequisites: Possess knowledge of Relational Database concepts such as tables, indexes,triggers, primary keys, foreign keys, and entity-relationship diagrams. Possess working knowledge of Windows or UNIX operation system.
Laptop Requirements: All students are required to bring a laptop with wired or wireless networking capability to run class exercises. Access to labs on servers and courseware are provided. However, equipment will not be provided for student activities.
