Professional Production & Post Workshop with the CIF+VF

If you're looking to gain hands-on experience actually producing a piece you can be proud of, join us for the Production & Post Like a Pro Workshop. The morning session will focus on filming a short promo for the Columbus International Film+Video Festival.  We'll spend the afternoon editing, refining and adding animations and titles to your video. At the end of the day, post your work on YouTube. 

The video that receives the most likes by Friday November 15th at midnight will have their video screened at the Movies and Mead event on Saturday, November 16th as a part of the 61st Columbus International Film + Video Festival!

Join Joddy Eric Matthews of MadWerkz Studio and Jenn Deafenbaugh of the Itty-Bitty Studio for this full-day commercial production and post workshop. 


  • 8:30 AM - coffee, light snacks and registration/sign in.


  • 9:00-12:00 AM - filming/preparing to film content.
    We'll touch on lighting, sound, directing and camera roles - and little tips that will make a big difference in your

  • 12:00 AM-1:00 PM - Lunch Break!
IMPORT - SYNCH - EDIT: Building Winning Editorial Habits
  • 1:00-3:00 PM - Import and edit footage & synch sound.
    We'll show you how to assemble a rough cut, then final edit of your 15-30 second spot.

THE ART OF COLOR: Polish and Shine Your Promo
  • 3:00-4:00 PM - Achieve a professional look; learn the basics of color grading.
MOTION CONTROLLED: The Art of Effective Titles
  • 4:00-5:30 AfterEffects, Simplified
    We'll show you how we animated the festival graphics in After Effects - if you're bringing your own computer, you can follow along!

RENDER: Going Where No Man Has Gone Before
  • 5:30-6:30 Putting it all together and exporting for web.

About the instructors...

Joddy Eric Matthews is an Award Winning Director, Cinematographer and Visual Effects Artist with a wide range of credits, including directing music videos and commercials for Vodaphone, BET, ArdBox, General Motors, Scion, NWA, The Fugees, Romeo’s Pizza, JCPenney Optical, Sherwin Williams, and the award winning short , The Bubble (BET, San Francisco International Film Festival) and his latest, the vfx heavy, Deadly Return. He also has provided animation work on many of the latest game titles for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation consoles.

Jennifer Deafenbaugh is an interactive storyteller who focuses on creating educational experiences that are relevant and entertaining. Her work including apps, classroom products, infographics, 2D animations and videos.  She also teaches a myriad of unique, creative classes through the Columbus Idea Foundry, events through Columbus Digital - the Central Ohio Adobe User Group and coding workshops with Girl Develop It! Columbus. She's an Adobe Certified Expert and loves helping others on their path to technical proficiency & creative professionalism.
